Repeating Patterns

Welcome back everybody!

What a great start from Fauns today. We were learning that using the features of shapes helps us to create a repeating pattern and they all did brilliantly. Every child finished the lesson with a big thumbs-up showing me how confident they felt with this learning objective, which is always great to see! Have a look at the photos below to see some of the great learning they were doing.

Musicians

Here at NWJS, we are very proud of all our learners for their widely varied talents. Connor and Joby shared theirs with Faun class today and put on a performance of 'Frere Jacques'. Well done to all the children for their achievements and to Connor and Joby for their bravery in putting on an impromptu concert for us to enjoy!

Peter and the Wolf

In Music these past few weeks, Fauns have been learning that each instrument has a different tone and 'personality'. I will put up their final performance tracks very soon but in the meanwhile, why don't you ask your child which character they were representing and which instruments they chose to use in order to do this?

Rhys' Challenge

Yesterday, we were learning that using the more than and less than signs accurately helps us to understand the size of numbers. That evening, Rhys went home and created a challenge for us all to solve using more than and less than . Why don't you have a go?!

This morning...

What a great morning full of learning and progress! We split off into small groups to learn that using numbers to 100 accurately helps us to solve calculations faster and the children were brilliant at self-assessing themselves. They broke off into small groups and pairs depending on their confidence and by the end of the lesson had all made great improvements! Well done Fauns on your independence!

In our English lesson, we were learning that drama helps us to remember what happened in an event and were re-enacting, hot-seating and doing 'corridors of voices' based around Boudica's battle with the Romans on Watling Street. The children listened very clearly to instructions to learn through drama in a really constructive way and were able to break down the battle into three key moments. They also built up a whole collection of topic vocabulary that is now sitting proudly on our Romans and Celts wall ready to help us with our recount of the battle at the end of the week.
Here is a freezeframe of some Fauns acting as Romans and Celts in the final stages of the battle when only a very few Celts were left...

Overall, well done Fauns on a great morning. I'm really proud of all the progress you made today and I'm looking forward to reading your recounts in our class book when they're finished!

Well done (again)!

Just another really quick well done.

This week in English, Fauns are using their writing skills to write a recount of their trip to the Castle Museum. Today, we revisited our story path method to learn that planning the structure of a story helps us to write it clearly. They were so brilliant!

Kim, Chloe and Lauren all went up to see Ms Brumby and the whole class earned one of their 'Whole Class Rewards' because of their effort and progress. I really noticed a great improvement since the planning of our last story, with most children moving on independently to collecting WOW words for their writing, again from a really wide variety of methods.

Well done Fauns - keep up the great progress and enthusiasm!
