A wonderful day was had in Fauns on Friday. Ali and Kaitlin, 2 artists from a company called Tinhouse, came to help us create giant African masks from willow.
The children spent the first part of the day looking at a wide variety of traditional masks and then having a go at designing their own. They then shared their ideas with their group to come up with a joint final design.
They then spent the rest of the day using willow of different thicknesses and LOTS of masking tape to create their masks. They were huge!
The skill and teamwork that the children demonstrated was amazing and we're looking forward to finishing them off this week and getting to see the finished product.
Thank you to our parent helpers, Kate, Sandy, Dean, Lisa and Rebecca, who came to help and really supported the children throughout the day.
Next week, we're finishing them off and then moving onto papering (tissue paper and lots of glue) and decorating. I can't wait!
Have a look at the photos below to see some of the things we got up to. Thank you to Andrew for his great photography and well done everyone for all your hard work.
