Lilac Writing

I was so proud of Fauns today. We have been learning about playscripts for the past few weeks and today was the culmination of all that work with an independent write-up of each child's play.

At the end of the lesson, almost half of the class stayed behind to show me their work as they were so proud of it and there were beaming smiles of success all around. It was so wonderful to see the children so proud of their work. So many of them kept turning to the first page in their books and comparing it with what they had just written to show me their progress since the start of the year. What an exciting moment to share with them!

I wanted to give you all the opportunity to share some of their success too and, with that in mind, have typed up some extracts of their writing below. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did (and as much as they enjoyed writing them!)

JOBY

Floss: Now I'm...

(volcano suddenly explodes)

Everybody: Run!

Exterminator Dragon: One day my fire will burn, my claws will scrape, my teeth will gnash and ... my army will rule the land and the world will be... ash!

(it peers out of its shell)

Billy: ssplutsrsplturs...

Floss: What that means is... run!

RHYS
Billy: I know it's not your fault.

Nobby: It is! (squawk)

Floss: Stop talking and get rowing!

Narrator: They rowed and rowed and rowed until suddenly they got caught and they died to death!

JOSH
Narrator: The stupid pirates were rowing madly.

Billy: This is hard isn't it Sally?

Sally: (tired) Yes it is Billy.

Nobby: (squawk) Here comes Big Bad Bod!

Big Bad Bob: (very rapid) Give me my map back or fight!

...

Narrator: While Big Bad Bob was lying there he got washed away. The pirates laughed.

Captain: It's time to go to bed.

Sally: Ohhh.

Nobby: I'm a sleepy parrot.

Floss: What a day!

Captain: I told you... (falls asleep)

 BECKY
Narrator: One sunny day on the Sitting Duck Billy and Floss were arguing over the biscuits.

Billy: (happy) I had some scrummy biscuits!
Floss: (angry) Where have all the biscuits gone?!

Billy: (confused) Well actually I don't know.
Floss: Nobby do you know where the biscuits are?

Nobby: (happy) I know where the biscuits are I know I know! (squawk) I ate them all!

MARCELI
The four pirates rowed to the island as fast as they could with their annoying pet parrot Nobby and here is the story of what happens next.

Billy: (saying in a tired voice) Are we there yet are we there yet are we...

Floss: (interrupting) Oh shut up Billy.

Billy: (singing) Sausage face, sausage face, sausage face, sausage face!

(Floss gives a sharp look at Billy)

Captain: Er... actually if you want to know we are there.

Narrator: But in an unexpected moment, Big Bad Bob flew out of the bushes and stabbed Billy in the arm.

LEWIS
Sally: Come on keep rowing or else Nobby will have to row.

Billy: Oh shut up Sally Nobby can't row he's got wings. Finally we are here. Oh I forgot my biscuits.

Floss: We can sneak in the Flying Pig. Big Bad Bob is having a nap.

FREDDY

...
Floss: Look Big Bad Bob is catching up on us.

Billy: Row, row, row!!
Floss: You heard Billy, row, row, row!!!!

Billy: We made it.
Floss: Now let's look for the treasure.

LILY-MAI G

Floss: Who ate all the biscuits?

Nobby: Me but I only had 5 packets. (squawk)

Floss: Nobby.

Nobby: I'm hungry! (squawk)

Floss: You just had 5 packets of biscuits!

Nobby: So. I'm still hungry!

seemingly continued by KIMBERLEY

Narrator: The next morning they reached the island.

Billy: We are now at the island.

Nobby: I'm hungry where are all the biscuits? (squawk)

Billy: You've eaten them all now stop going on about it.

DYLAN

...
Nobby: I see an island.

(Nobby is excited)

Floss: We're not biscuits we're looking for the treasure.

Narrator: Nobby was looking suspicious.

Captain: We have reached the island Floss.

Nobby: So let's get digging! (squawk)

Captain: You heard Nobby, let's get digging.

Billy:  I have found something. It's treasure!

Nobby: To the boat! (squawk)

last but definitely not least... CONNOR D

Narrator: It was a lovely day. A great day for sailing and this is the story of what happens next...

Nobby: Row faster you two. (squawk)

Sally: I can't help it.

Billy: It's really hard work.

Sally: I'm going on strike.

Captain: (sad) You can't do that.

Sally: Yes I can.

Billy: I agree my arms are aching.

Sally: I have an idea.

Floss: I bet it's another silly idea.

Captain: If she thinks she has an idea then let's listen to it.

Sally: Let's ALL row.

Captain: Great idea!

Floss: You heard the Captain, pick up your oar and row.

Big Bad Bob: We're getting closer. (angrily) Grrrr.

Nobby: I see treasure.

Captain: Where?

Nobby: There near the ex!

That's all folks!

Cross Country

Wow! Year 3 all did brilliantly at the Cross Country. There were so many personal bests and the children should all be very proud of what they achieved. Thanks to their great behaviour and attitude, we were able to start at 2.30 on the dot keeping us right on schedule, which was great too.

Well done everybody and I hope you enjoy these photos.

Year 3 children impress in Cross Country!

This week in Games, Dragons and Fauns have been practicing running the route around our school field, ready for tomorrow's house cross country competition.

The children have all given 100% and have had a great attitude to running, even if running isn't their favourite activity. They've shown that they understand that it's all about trying their best and not just winning!

Please come and support the children as they all take part in our school cross country competition tomorrow (Friday) - Year 3 will be running at about 2.30pm, so please come at 2.15pm to make sure that you're in position ready to cheer them on!

I wonder which house team will win this year?
Bure? Glaven? Waveney? Wensum?

Cube Afternoon

This afternoon, Fauns had their well-earnt cube afternoon with a film, blankets and lots of popcorn. I'm sorry I missed out on the fun but hopefully I'll get to hear all about it later.

Fauns - why don't you leave a comment and let me know how you got on?

Playscripts

I just wanted to share another lovely moment with you. Fauns are busy using their learning to read playscripts with expression. Here is a picture of the Red group working with Miss Timmins and I love how Georgina has got her arms flying up into the air. They're really trying to act flamboyantly to create an effective piece of drama!

Well done Fauns!

Wow Fauns! What great learning you've been doing on using your handwriting joins today. I can't wait to see the progress in your writing in our plays on Friday!

This is a picture of the front cover of a play. Can you guess what it is about?

Miss Othacehe

Fauns have been doing some fancy handwriting today, we thought you may like to see all of our work!

Archaeological Dig

What a fantastic afternoon for Dragons (and Miss Othacehe, Miss Timmins, Mrs Atyeo and Miss Williams!!). We went out to the discovery site expecting to find some bugs and moss and instead...

We found some artefacts! Lots of them!

We found animal skulls, broken pottery, pieces of fabric, feathers, stones and all sorts of other exciting things. Have a look at some of the photos: (thank you to Sophie for her great photography!)

Lena and Adam with our first two major finds. They both found a piece of pottery with a pattern on the edge and a thick rim.

George found some fabric. We had to decide whether it was modern (as it wasn't damaged) or if was ancient (as it was woven).

A sample of our tools. Before the lesson we decided that we needed:
a) trowels
b) brushes
c) magnifying glasses

 Dragons digging busily.
Chloe's massive find! At first, we thought it was a dinosaur jaw!

I love the care that Joseph (or this might be Jack as the coat is confusing me!) is taking here by using a brush instead of a trowel in order to make sure not to destroy any artefacts that he might find!

After all our digging, we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to Dr Smith from the UEA on Skype about our finds and what he thought our finds could be and when the site could date from. Why not ask a Dragon what we found out? (sorry for how unclear the photos are - we were all gathered around the tiny screen so that we could use the webcam and microphone and it was quite a challenge!)

Please remember that Fauns are going to get the same opportunity tomorrow at 13:45, so if you'd like to see what you can find, why not come and join in?!
